Connecting With Nature To Change Your Emotional State.

If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.~Carl Sagan

We’ve been talking about our spirit bodies and how to sense them in the past few posts. Out focus has been inward and directed at ourselves.

We’re going to begin expanding our focus on the spirit body to include others, nature and the whole of existence… I bet you didn’t know monkeys know about such things, but they do.

Doug imagines a stream...

Doug imagines a stream…

This next exercise is personal, and no one will have the same results. It has to do with our emotions and desires, and how we interpret them.

We’re going to incorporate nature into our spirit body… More specifically, we’re going to use our personal interpretations of nature to cause change within ourselves…

We’re going to think about how we feel, acknowledge if we wish to feel differently and then change. Easy!

Or maybe not… That’s  why we’re going to enlist our understanding of nature to help us with this exercise. What better way to get a sense of strength than to imagine an unmoving mountain, or an ancient redwood tree?

We all have different experiences and mental imagery. For example, my favorite animal is  the crow. I know that many others see them as pests and even as evil omens… That’s OK. My personal experience is crows are intelligent, problem solving birds who are known for being spiritual messengers in many cultures. “My” crow doesn’t eat up the crops and cause mischief… He’s an enlightened bird!

Let’s get going with the exercise…

Example

Today I’m feeling a bit anxious about the future. I’m at a crossroads in life… Much of my efforts are directed towards gaining financial independence by living a life that is self directed… Basically, I’m trying to make a living doing what I love-creating and helping others.

With my eyes closed I relax and begin to sense my spirit body. I use the techniques we’ve already discussed to do this. I feel anxiety deep inside… It feels like a knot of seaweed entangling me. I acknowledge that I’m feeling anxious about the future…

I want to feel confident with my choices to be free and content… I want to believe that I’ll be supported in my decisions.

I call up the imagery of a small stream as it babbles along… It goes over, around or through any obstacle it encounters. The water keeps flowing with a gentle persistence, finding a path, never being constrained…

To add to the feeling of calmness, I imagine this stream working its way through a shaded forest. The trees shelter the water flow in most places, but bright patches of sun suddenly bathe the water in warmth…

I take this image of the stream and pull it into myself… I let it become part of my spirit body… I imagine the waters washing through me, loosening up the blockage of anxiety and flushing it out of me…

The stream keeps flowing, moving forward, and so will I…

Exercise

Close Your eyes and relax, like we’ve done in the past exercises. Sense your spirit body, the boundaries as well as how it looks.

How are you feeling right now? Is there a problem you’re worrying about? Re you being held back by fear? Is part of your spirit body not as strong as it should be?

Sense these issues and acknowledge them. Now, think about how you want to change them… How do you want to feel? What do you need to do to bring about the change you desire?

Imagine something in nature that embodies, to you, the quality or action that you need. Maybe it’s the warmth of the sun, or the bravery of the mockingbird… Perhaps it’s the stability of an old stone half buried in a field…

Imagine this aspect of nature as clearly as you can, with all of your senses. Make it real… Now, take your imagined bit of nature and pull it into yourself… Let it work on your problem and replace it with it… Imagine yourself using the strength you called up to help you change your emotional state… Become that part of nature and let it help you be whatever you wish to be…

This exercise doesn’t have to take a long time. It can be done in a matter of minutes. It’s powerful though, in spite of being easy to do.

Take notice of how you feel throughout the day. Use this exercise to encourage yourself to stay on the path you wish to be on. It’s amazing how much strength we can give ourselves if we just imagine things to be how we want them to be.

  1. Ah, GREAT! you are actually melding with nature which you already are ! WE ARE nature. We have simply forgotten. Are we aliens? Are we robots? We sure do act like it. NO we ARE nature. we have simply separated ourselves. This is a great practice to become nature as we already are ! FABULOUS ❤

    1. Thanks Julie- It’s important to strengthen our connection with nature on a regular basis. I think if you don’t a sense of alienation develops.
