It is impossible to grasp another human’s inner world. But even in the darkness of the densest forest, there can always be the light of a firefly.~ Krupakar
Let’s get going!
Doug and I related how to construct a safe place from which to journey inward to meet your true self.
Now we’ll expand upon this mental creation and construct a path inwards. Here is what my personal opening and tunnel are like:
My opening into the ground which leads to my true self is within the exposed roots of a weeping willow tree. This particular tree stood in the front yard of my childhood home. I can still recall the sun dappling the ground as it filtered through the drooping branches…
I imagine a small opening between the roots. as I enter it the soil is sandy and dry. Small roots hang from the roof of the opening. It’s fairly light inside, as the opening is large enough to let some sunlight spill in.
Towards the rear of my cave is a dark passageway the slopes downward. I take this passage when I want to head inwards. It’s pitch black… Sometimes the way is smooth, sometimes it is rough and crumbly… Sometimes It’s elastic and close and sometimes it’s expansive… Once or twice I had to wade through water… It all depends…
Depending on my state of mind, some journeys are more difficult to take than others. Our minds, our egos, will work against us sometimes. We may not want the answers we’re seeking, or may fear change. This is normal.
I keep pushing through my tunnel until I see the opening in the distance. It often appears as a rough circle of light. I enter through the opening and…
It’s your turn. Create a passageway from your opening in the earth down which you’ll journey to meet your true self…
Do the relaxation exercise that we described in a previous post. From now on we’ll assume that you do this exercise before each new task… It’s best to be in a relaxed state whenever doing this type of imagining.
Enter your opening in the earth. Get comfortable with it… bring it to life in your imagination. Once you can clearly imagine your surroundings, create an passageway towards the rear… It slopes downward.
Is it dark? What texture does it have? Is it large or small?
Head down the passageway. Is it easy or difficult to travel? What does it smell like?
Keep going until you sense the end. It may take a long time, or it might appear quickly… And it may be different each time you travel it.
Approach the opening at the end of your passageway but don’t step through. Is it light on the other side? Dark? No different?
Return to the opening and emerge… Travel your passageway a few times. Note how it’s different, if it is, depending on what mood you’re in. You’re creating this, so how you feel will impact the result…
Practice the journey, and prepare to step through the passageway next time.
