What Are You Offering?

As a teenager I was so insecure. I was the type of guy that never fitted in because he never dared to choose. I was convinced I had absolutely no talent at all. For nothing. And that thought took away all my ambition too. ~Johnny Depp

Brainstorm your way to contentment!

Brainstorm your way to contentment!

In my last post, I discovered that my true self is a“creative problem solver who can help others construct their own fulfillment”.

This is a good general understanding of what I want to be in life. Now, I need to figure out what I’ll actually offer others.

To figure out what I have to offer, I went over the list of my skills and talents.

With my new understanding of my abilities, I asked myself “what am I offering?”. I wrote down the first things that came to mind. I kept at it until I had a list of fifty or more things I could offer others. Some were good ideas, some were just silly. this is what I came up with…

What I’m offering is:
  • the ability to overcome fear.
  • making your dreams into reality.
  • making 2 dimensions into 3 dimensions.
  • creation of an authentic life.
  • guidance for others through life.
  • happiness.
  • making ideas into reality.
  • freedom to be your own person.
  • creativity.
  • problem solving.
  • blockage destruction.
  • authentic self.
  • freedom.
  • self reliance.
  • security in an insecure world.
  • art.
  • usefulness.
  • helpful to everyone.
  • tools to create a satisfying life.
  • a template for contentment.
  • a purpose for everyone.
  • the ability to take charge of your own
  • life.
  • enjoyment.

I wrote a lot more of these down but thought this selection illustrates the point of the exercise well enough. From the above list I chose the offerings that are most in line with what I want to be doing in life. My refined list looks like this:

I offer:

  • creation of an authentic life.
  • making ideas into reality.
  • freedom to be your own person.
  • security in an insecure world.
  • tools to create contentment in life.
  • the ability to take charge of your own life.
  • enjoyment.

I now have some general ideas to build on. My “finding your path in life” series has been good practice for me, and it seems to be helping others. I can build upon what I learned from writing these posts. I’ll keep whittling away at my ideas and refining them. Narrowing my focus in this way brings my dreams a lot closer to reality…

Exercise

Read over your list of talents from the last exercise. Think about your skills and how you can combine them. Ask yourself the question, “What am I offering?”

Start a list titled  “What I’m offering is” and write down the first thing that comes to mind. Keep doing this for fifty or so times. It’ll start getting more difficult after ten, but keep going. Once the obvious answers are out of the way, you’ll start making some really good connections.

So, What are you offering?

Refine, refine, refine!
